Lucy & Gareth – A Laid-Back English Garden Marquee Wedding
Three words to describe your day:
Family. Happiness. Laid Back.
Lucy and Gareth tied the knot on a date that held deep meaning – it was their grandparents’ anniversary, a beautiful way to honour generations of love before them.
The pair first met in Cardiff while at university, and years later, Gareth popped the question during an unforgettable four-week adventure through South America – a story as full of life and laughter as they are.
Their wedding was everything they dreamed of: a laid-back, quintessential English summer garden party, filled with colour, warmth, and a sense of effortless joy. “We wanted to look like us – but more polished!” Lucy shared.
Some of their most cherished memories from the day included a cheeky (and hilarious!) speech from the Father of the Bride, a quiet squeeze of hands in the car before walking down the aisle, and guests laughing and playing Gareth’s handmade garden game with drinks in hand.
Lucy recalls the moment she looked around the marquee, feeling “pleased as punch at how pretty it looked.” She adds, “Marquee weddings don’t have to be white marshmallows – they can be colourful but still not tacky!”
Their first dance song, “Shut Up and Dance,” began as a soft acoustic number before bursting into the full pop version – perfectly matching their vibrant personalities.
When it came to choosing their photographer, Lucy and Gareth found Jess online and were impressed by her reviews: “You were one of the top-rated photographers in the North West. The reviews said you got enough formal photos to keep parents happy and enough candid photos for everyone else – and this was certainly the case!”
Lucy added, “Jess, you are so lovely, down to earth, and just get on with the photos with absolutely no fuss! With a husband who didn’t even want a photographer, he now whole-heartedly agrees it was the best decision we made.”
Best advice for other couples?
“You will disagree from time to time, and you’ll probably reach a point where the budget goes out the window. But if it goes on good confetti – and great photos – it’s so worth it!”
Currently, Lucy and Gareth are celebrating their newlywed bliss in sunny Seville, sipping sangria and soaking it all in.
